Mastering
The Medical Internet
A series of
classes designed to help busy health professionals more fully utilize the wide range of
resources available on the World Wide Web and the Internet.
All classes are taught by the experienced staff of Samaritan Medical Center
Library. The resources covered are freely
available to anyone with Internet access. Each
class lasts approximately one hour with additional time available for students to access
sites of interest discussed in class.
Certificate
of Completion
An official
Samaritan Medical Center Library Certificate of Completion signifying mastery of the
medical Internet will be given to any student attending the Introductory, the Advanced,
and one specialized class.
Availability
Classes
are offered on a regular basis at Samaritan Medical Center and can also be presented free of charge at
participating institutions in the hospital library program.
General Classes
INTERNET FOR DUMMIES (OPTIONAL)
This class is an introduction
to basic Internet tools and techniques. Designed
for the student with little or no experience using the Internet. Covers basic computer functions, organization of
the Internet and search engines

An introduction
to finding health information on the internet. The
class will cover effective search strategies, selection and use of health-related web
sites and evaluating health information resources.

ADVANCED HEALTH INFORMATION ON
THE INTERNET
This course is for students who have already completed the
introductory class. This class will cover
Medline and other bibliographic databases,
full-text electronic access to book and periodical literature and appropriate use of print
and electronic resources.

Specialized Classes
Completion of
the Introductory Health Information class on the Internet is recommended prior to taking
specialized classes.

This class will cover information sources on the
Internet related to healthcare management. Major areas covered include:
the hospitals, the healthcare industry, healthcare statistics, general
management resources and timesaving tools.
