A New Method for Off-Site Access to
Samaritan Library Journals and Databases
The Hunter-Rice Health Sciences Library is pleased to offer a new method of off-site access to its journals and databases called OpenAthens.
OpenAthens is a new remote authentication system that will allow authorized Samaritan users to access Library journals and databases from any place that has an internet connection. All the user need do is enter his or her OpenAthens username and password and they are automatically signed in to all Library resources available through OpenAthens.
OpenAthens replaces the now defunct EZproxy remote patron authentication system and is much more robust and user friendly. Those who had an EZproxy account or who have had trouble accessing Library resources while away from the Samaritan campus will appreciate OpenAthens ease of use and functionality.
The user portal name is called MyAthens and it enables the user to see a list of all Library resources available through OpenAthens. Once your request for access has been approved, the administrator will send you a link to your email address and you can choose your own password. It is customizable, easy to use and available anywhere you have the internet and a browser.
The UpToDate diagnostic program is not currently available through OpenAthens.
